My dear readers,
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I’m still sorting out various topics for my posts, and this week, I’ll cover the process of editing, some original fiction, more about Ireland, and other ideas.
I’m aware of current events in the world, but I know there are people who have a firm grasp of how to interpret, analyze, and present the facts far better than I can, so I’ll leave them to it. Do I have my own opinions? Yes, yes, I do. Will I share them? Most likely, especially when I feel like going on a tear.
Politely, of course.
Creative Updates:
My thriller novel (adapted from a screenplay I wrote) is being problematic, but only in the sense of not knowing the time period. That’s really the only reason I’m having issues with writing it. It’s a bizarre reason, but it is what it is. I’m debating putting it in the later 1990s, early 2000s, which is when I wrote it. We shall see.
The sequel to How to Bury the Undead is turning out to be a very dark story. Self harm that turns fatal figures into it. Sibling rivalry from the cradle. Grooming by a demon - or is it a ghost? Haven’t quite figured that out yet.
Professional Updates:
My current editing gig has taught me how I want to move forward as an editor. There will definitely be an evaluation fee, to determine if it’s ready for editing or not. This will help prevent both the author and myself from wasting each other’s time with a manuscript that isn’t ready to move forward.
It sounds harsh, but it’s not - some writers are more on the ball than others, some manuscripts are better developed than others. It’s not just a level of skill, it’s a level of discipline that’s required to do the work before the editor sees it. That’s based on my own experience of being a writer, working with an editor on a manuscript that didn’t have a middle, or an end.
Lesson - as a writer, be prepared to do the work, so that the editor can help you find the unpolished stones and turn them into jewels.
Meanwhile…..
So, now that we’ve caught up, I hope to see Monday, for the weekly Musings.
All the best,
Your Faithful Scribe
